Damocles LL “Hector”

** Currently out on lease **

EXCEPTIONAL FUTURE FEI PONY

For sale to talented ambitious young rider

7yr old 147cms bright bay gelding already winning nationally at Medium, Hector has great presence, effortless elastic paces, quick intelligence and a first-rate work ethic.

Hector at Welsh Nationals 2013After just one month’s training at Medium, Hector qualified for the Welsh National Championships with 65% on his 3rd ever Medium test. Two weeks later he was reserve champion at Medium at the Welsh national’s, his first major competition. He was placed second on the first day and won both tests on the second day, his consistently high scores for lateral work and expressive paces at such an early stage in his career show he has a great deal more to offer.

Hector has had few outings at Novice and Elementary level due to his obvious talent and aptitude for higher levels of competition, and so has limited points on his record. He could be campaigned at Novice level if needed.

If we keep Hector we will expect consistent 65+% performances in Medium and 60%+ in Advanced Medium by the end of this season, moving to Advanced next year – he is already starting to show the engagement and impulsion required to shine at this level and we are confident he has a successful international career ahead of him.

Hector’s thoroughbred bloodline shows in his seemingly endless stamina, after 5 hours travelling and 5 tests over 3 days of competition he gave a first rate performance in his last, and most important test.

Hector competing at the Welsh Championships 2013 1st in this test and Reserve Champion overall. Hector has only been working at Medium for 6 weeks at this point, it’s his 4th ever affiliated Medium test and his first ever major competition. This is the Medium 75, generally thought to be the hardest Medium – such is his talent he won it easily despite not always giving it his full attention! The judge particularly liked the lateral work.

For success at the highest levels of competition, temperament is as important as athleticism and intelligence. Despite his age, Hector is level-headed and sensible, tackling the demands of major competitions with enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment.

Hector’s father is Chinnor Democrat, a 15.2 dark bay stallion who competed up to Advanced Medium level, qualifying for the Nationals and representing Wales. All Demo’s offspring inherit his kind temperament and strong work ethic, my daughter started schooling him when she was 14. Demo comes from Eventing stock, and was bought by Tracy as a 3 year old from Chinnor eventing stud as, despite showing exceptional talent, he was deemed too small to carry the then compulsory 11st minimum weight.

Hector’s relations are all straightforward individuals that enjoy competing, both parents and 2 siblings can be seen. Hector is happy to live in or out, he has wintered out in the past with a rug on and ad lib hay. He is used to travelling as most competitions are at least 2 hours for us and his recent outing to the National’s was 5 hours each way. He loads first time into a lorry or trailer and is happy to travel with a companion and on his own, he stands on the lorry quietly on his own and is happy to tie up outside. He hacks on roads and is not fazed by traffic.

At Llys Lew Stud we specialise in breeding top competition ponies and horses, keeping the best foals and training and competing them until we fully understand their individual potential. All of our ponies and horses are personally backed, trained and competed by Tracy, who is a highly experienced dressage rider at all levels, trainer and British Dressage UKCC Level 2 coach.

You can be confident when you buy a Llys Lew bred horse or pony from us; they run free with the herd in 20 acre paddocks for the first 3 years and are then gradually introduced to work, being sympathetically backed and trained at a pace to suit individual ability and development. All our own bred stock has a known history from birth, as a competition yard we pay close attention to all aspects of development and wellbeing, including tack, feet, feed, grazing and even muscular development with regular visits from an equine massage specialist. See Articles for information about our breeding and producing approach.

Hector needs to go to a competition home where his potential will be fulfilled. Serious enquires only please, this is a rare opportunity to buy an exceptional pony.
